I'll be there...with my Barenaked apparel on. Flattop, bearded, black
leather jacket, perpetual smile, and singing along :)

P.S. Didja know that the cassette version of the BFF album has a slight
difference from the CD version? ;)

For the man that said:
"I'm curious where they got it from since
there was no audience noise...possibly the appearance on Letterman (or was
it the other guy?)"

It's possible that it was from the appearance on Conan O'Brien. They
played it to a T. I've got that appearance on tape at home, but home is
4 hours away and I'm not going there till their show in Chicago on the
27th. (if anyone's interested in acquiring it).

Greeting fellow BFF fans,

As we all know due BFF is scheduled to play in Detroit/Pontiac on Jan 26. I
found out today on the promoters homepage today that a band called Three
Pound Thrill is scheduled to warm up.

I seem to recall the name of this band, but don't know if they are local or
not. Anyone know anything about this band? Just wondering.

For those interested the URL for Clutch Cargos in Detroit is

Whoa! Now, I let whoever made the nasty remarks about the Barenaked Ladies
slide becuase I knew my compadres would rush to my side, but I have a
feeling I'm alone in defending this one. Certainly, I'd agree that Barry
Black is one of the strangest albums I've ever heard, too, but I in no way
see that as bad.

Sure, I expected something like Eric Bachman's Archers of Loaf when I got
it, or perhaps shades of Ben Folds Five. And, sure, it's nothing like
either of those things. Heck, it hardly ever treads on the ground of pop
music. But I think it's a great album anyways. Where else could you find
something flipping from a pseudo-polka to a classical quartet? And every
composition has a bizzare, twisted air to it that brings a special air to
whatever genre he chooses to use. Anyone who doesn't really like this most
likely expected to stay in the realm of normal pop music, but for those of
us who appreciate bizzareness and inventivness in whatever form it takes,
it's a treat.

In other sorta-bf5 news, I actually managed to pick up (on somebody here's
suggestions) two Bus Stop albums (featuring brother of ben Chuck Folds on
bass). For free, natch! They were promo albums that went to the T.V.
station of a guy I know. Whomever described them as "White Boy Funk" was
correct. I think I'd like them better if they took themselves less
seriously: stop trying to put out straight funk and get a little weird with
it. They don't seem to realize the stuff they do is semi-cheesy, and
perhaps if they did, they could have a bit more fun with it. That's my
mini-review, anyhow, but if anybody can pick it up for free, as I did, then
go for it.

That's all. Oh, yeah, I'm going to see The Ben Folds Five twice in the
coming two weeks, so you can all be jealous of me now.

Being new to the line and lacking any intuitiveness whatsoever, I am not
sure I'm even sending this mail to the list. However, if I have, I am
curious as to whether Ben Folds Five have played Seattle? I read that they
will be playing in California during their current tour, but am not aware of
any further dates. Could anyone enlighten me? Thanks. dswan@path.org
