Did anybody catch them on The Beatles Anthology special on ABC's In
Concert? They played "My Philosophy" but I found it rather dissapointing
since they decided to cut the song off just before it was over and
coincidentally just before Ben really got going on his piano. It was great
to see them on national TV nonetheless even if it was the middle of the night
on a night when most cool people should be out and having a good time in the
streets of whatever town they live in!

Ok, here is a good project for fellow Ben Folds Fivers. On the last
newsletter it was reported that Ben said that "underground" would be the last
video that BF5 would do. I really hope this is not true and I would really
appreciate it if everyone would ask(bother) him about this statement. I
don't think Ben Folds Five needs videos to gain exposure, but I also don't
think it is fair that the emptyve heads will never really get a chance to be
exposed to the music. In addition to that it is fun seeing pictures going
with the music even though I am usually dissappointed by videos. Basically
I'm just saying it would be nice of somebody to ask Ben about this further
and then inform the rest of us about it!

 Thanx and hi Nikki,

Subject: ABC Concert...I didn't get it!

Hey all...I live in Boston, and I taped ABC from 12-3am Fri. night, and the
concert wasn't on!!!! I looked in the TV guide for this week and next week,
and it isn't listed...what happened? why did everyone else get it except
me (or did i tape the wrong time?) if anyone has any ideas how i can see
this show (even though it was short), or if any bostonians have any clue
as to what happened, or if and when it will be on, PLEASE let me know!

Just a short note about the recent shows...

I saw them i concert in Providence and in Boston...I have to say that they
are amazing, but they seemed tired...I saw them in december and it was like
their excitment was endless...I talked to Ben afterwards, and he was saying
how they needed a break...they are all such great guys! They signed the
back of a t-shirt for me, and ben drew a piano, and Robert and Darren wrote
notes, not just their names. I think that it is so cool of them to stay
with all their fans and sign any autographs...

oh...another thing...They played Boxer in Boston, which i have never heard
in concert...i sounded great! funny thing was that the majority of the
song was solely ben, and robert was sitting on the side smoking and making
smoke rings...really funny...he kind of drew attention away from ben for a
 bit...

just my few cents on their concert...even though tired, they still rocked!
They have come a long way as a band...much more joking, talking, and
jamming than the first time i saw them...I like it! and...the new songs
 were really cool...

 Subject: Cleveland show

Saw the band in Cleveland last week (my 2nd show) and just wanted
to chime in with the latest round of "They were great!" They played
pretty much the same set that everyone else is reporting (e-mail me for
the exact setlist): the entire album, plus Song for the Dumped,
Steven's Last Night, One Angry Dwarf and 200 Solemn Faces. The encore
was Boxing and Video Killed the Radio Star. Two songs I did not
recognize: the first was a cover tune. Ben announced that it was by
Darren Johnson (or something like that-- I didn't quite understand him.)
Anyone know the name of the song? The second one may have been the
b-side to the Jackson Cannery 7"-- the band didn't announce it and I
didn't recognize it. Again, help in identifying this song is
 appreciated!!
That's really all I have to report-- all those who have seen Ben
Folds Five know what a great performance they usually turn out! If you
haven't seen them yet, GO NOW!! You won't regret it.

 Dave

 Hey-

Well I just got back from my spring break and the highlight of it was
seeing The 5 in Providence. Wow, they were great. This is the 2nd time I
have seen them, the first in early December of last year. I don't know if
they usually play this song but they opened up with a Liz Phair song.
(The 1st song on her album w/Supernova on it, the one where she sings
about how she doesn't mind taking it up the ass. Whatever :) They also
played some other songs that I never heard, the 200 angry dwarfs?, when is
Steve leaving?, and a couple others. They also did a cover of Hendrix's
"Crosstown Traffic." A funny part of the show was when they were making
fun of Metallica and they played part of the song "One." The end part
when it is hard. Well anyway, overall the show kicked ass. Talk to you
 later.

 Later,
 Chris

 P.S.
I shook Ben's hand after the show.
          :)

  Subject: BF5 in Philly/BF5 on WNEW/Avenging Annie

I too had a very enjoyable time at Thursday's BF5 show in Phila. To the guy
who was temporarily ousted from the show, they did play "Where's Summer B.?"!
"Dumped" was done particularly well, and "Boxing" sans strings is even better
than the record. A rousing "Jackson Cannery" was altered somewhat (the outro
became the intro). Very spirited stuff, and the other bands were fine too.

Anyone who was lucky enough to hear and to tape BF5 on WNEW, please e-mail
me if you want to swap tapes. Also, does anyone have a tape of BF5's
appearance on WXPN's World Cafe show? I was able to hear some of that show,
but was not able to tape it. What I heard of it was great and I definitely
want to add it to my collection. I tried in vain to get the station to dub
  me a copy.

Finally, I want to pass on a suggestion to Ben for a tune I think BF5 should
cover--"Avening Annie." A guy named Andy Pratt did this song back in the
late '70s (?) and it's got fantastic piano licks in it. It'd really be a
crowd pleaser, I think. Well, ok, it'd please me!! Ben, if you read this
and aren't familiar with the song but would like to check it out, let me know.
I'd be happy to supply you with a copy.

  :)
  Bill

After jamming for several months to "Underground" on the radio, I became
hooked to the cheesy, peppy, and contagious grin that only that song could
produce! I wanted more! So, I went to the Cleveland show March 19th and was
in heaven!!!! Never before have I been entertained by such a hilarious,
energetic, and genuine BAND!! I was impressed by all three members ability
to connect with every member of the audience as if it were all best friends!
Highlights of the show included the performance of "Video Killed the Radio
Star," the humorous stories they told, "Alice Childress"(in which bass player
Robert Sledge and Darren Jessee had the help of ALL audience members on the
catchy melody), and of course, Ben's recreation of Springsteen's "Dancing in
the Dark" video in which the girl is plucked out of the audience, pulled up
on stage, and granted the wish of all female BFF fans: to get down and
boggie with Ben. Only in Ben's recreation, the dancing was done on top of
the baby grand. A sight to see!! After the encore, he generously passed out
handshakes and "thank you's" to all his adoring female fans that rushed the
stage. This band has it going on. This was the bands 3rd performance in
Cleveland at the same venue in the past 6 months. BFF has definately won the
hearts of Cleveland and we can only wish and hope to see MUCH more of them in
 the future!!!

Write me and we'll chat about BFF's past, present, and future!!

This is my first post to the list. Hello! I needed to comment
about the ABC In Concert show. It sounded awful! Does anyone
agree? I was at that show and the band sounded perfect to me.
(Granted I hadn't even heard the album at this point....) I was
right in front of Ben (I must have been standing beside other list
members from what I've read) so I may have not gotten the full
effect of the "house mix". I was just wondering what other people
thought, especially those who were there.

 BFF listers-

Sorry to all who have written me with questions about the BFF in
Raleigh, NC. Some of you called the Ritz and heard someone tell you
 that they're closed on Friday.

The show in Raleigh at the Ritz is now the show in Charlotte at the
Tremont Music Hall, still on the 29th. Geezer Lake and the Squirrel
Nut Zippers will no longer be playing, instead it will be The
Customers (an acoustic act). Not nearly as exciting, but a BFF show
nonetheless. I won't be able to give out passes to this one.

 Sorry 'bout the confusion,

 Adam

 Hello all-

Just a few quick details - since F&J have already been mentioned...

They will be doing a CD release show in Atlanta for "Delusions Of
Grandeur" (which features Mr. Folds banging the skins all over the
place) at Smiths Olde Bar in Atlanta THIS wed., the 27th. Tix are $5 I
believe. Everyone who can should come and check this band out before
they start playing arenas- the woman can SING!

I'm still upset about record label politics forcing F&J to crap out on
the Gavin show with Lush and BFF. Now THAT would've been a triple bill
 from heaven...
