i had a discussion with some other fans at the st. louis show, and we
thought of an interesting question: how can dedicated fans refer to
themselves in a quick, consise, yet universally understood manner? for
example, we have deadheads. we also have phishheads. well? we were trying
to think of a few names, the best (but probably most unoriginal) being
"benheads". but then again, we weren't sure. thoughts?

just throwing that out for ya!

i will e-mail again soon with comparisons/contrasts between the st. louis
and chicago shows. as of today (saturday), i'm still in the mode of sleep
deprivation. we drove over 12 hours this week to see the guys--worth every
mile, every tank of gas, and every truck stop. :)

Hi all you Armchairites!

After seeing a Meat Loaf special on TV last night I must agree with what
THE YANKEE proposed in the Armchair #253.

Paradise by the dashboard light would be a great cover to do for BFF.

What do you think?

Did I miss an issue or was I the only one to post a review of the April 22
St. Louis show? I really want somebody to post a setlist and I know atleast
4 armchair-goers were there. Also, somebody I talked to was going to maybe
tape the show. If you did this let me know. Thanx

Geez, Bess, you didn't like the Musician Magazine interview that I spent
forever typing in and posting? Okay, seriously, I'm flattered. Next
time I have an interesting BF5 dream I'll post it. It's not like I dream
about them all the time, and even when I do it's not necessarily
interesting. But I'll try to leave you with one good tidbit:

>while ben was shaking hands (mine
>included) the guy next to me asked ben to sing song for the dumped in
>japanese. and he sang the last verse in japanese:

Azusa Motohashi sent me tapes last year of some of their Japanese shows,
which included them singing the chorus (but not the verses) of SftD in
Japanese. Now, just so happens I know a little Japanese. They sang
"kane o kaete", which literally means "return the money".

Hello all, just getting back from the Cleveland show. Rockin as usual!
Great to see that it sold out! Well, I've got the DAT in hand. I just
listened to it a minute ago as a matter of fact. It's not the best tape
that I've ever made, but it's definitely not shitty. So I thought I'd
repost the sign up for the tree for those of you who are new or those of
you who missed it.

Special thanks goes out to Darren who helped me get my stuff in the
door, past the rude and ignorant door dork.

NOTE:
SIGN UP'S WILL END AT MIDNIGHT WEDNESDAY APRIL 30TH!!!!

This is a repost of the original message that was in Armchair #219
PLEASE read everything carefully if you are unfamilar with how this
works.
- -------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I will be treeing this show and providing the seed to this mailing list
ONLY. So I'm not crossposting this to any other lists and I expect
everone else to do the same.

If you are not familiar with how a tree works, here is a short lesson.
It starts with a master tape of a show called the SEED (which I made).
From there dubs are made to other people who will make dubs for about
3 to 4 people They are called BRANCH leaders or PARENTS. The people
they make dubs for are called LEAVES or CHILDREN. Leaves, as in a real
tree are the end of the branch, so these people don't want to make dubs
or can't make dubs. Hopefully we can keep the branches to a limit to
keep the gen low for the farthest leaf at 2nd generation. In all cases
people will either be trading existing shows (by anyone) or sending
blanks and return postage.

You don't have to have any shows to be on this tree. But it is up to you
to work out
arrangements with the person to which you are assigned as to whether you
will send them blanks or trade shows.

So an example of a tape tree's structure would look something like this:

(SEED) bubba@pip.net

- ---------jimbo@dork.net (Parent)
- --------------------retard@spaz.com (leaves)
- --------------------pasteup@slimeball
- --------------------panty@twit.net

So bubba makes a tape for Jimbo (parent) and then Jimbo makes tapes for
Retard, Pasteup, and Panty(children).

So that's it.

Now for the sign-up.

If you are a trader or can send blanks (TRADERS ONLY!!!! NO BOOTLEG
CD SALES JERKS!!! BFF DOESN'T ALLOW IT AND I DON'T CONTRIBUTE TO IT!!)
please cut and paste the info below and E-mail back to ME personally,
NOT TO THE LIST.
There will be a limited number of Digital Clones made from my tape
depending
upon the amount of people interested.

If you can make Digital clones please put in the subject line: D>D BFF
Cleveland.

If you can make DAT to Analog dubs put in the subject line: D>A BFF
Cleveland.

If you can make Analog to Analog dubs put in the subject line: A>A BFF
Cleveland.

If you are not willing to make dubs or cannot make
dubs (D or A) put in the subject line: leaf BFF Cleveland.

Just wondered if there's anyone going to any of Tokyo shows next month.
I don't see any posts from people there, but I'm sure there are some,
who are sticking to this flood of English....

I'm going to the shows on May 9th, 18th, and 20th.

I don't know if 'nametag system' or shouting 'Armchair!' works at Blitz,
but at least we'll know there is people from Armchair if you (YES, YOU!)
post a brief message to the list, such as 'I'm going to 5/18 show'.
Speak up, mates! Let people know that here we loyal fans are in Japan!

And feel free to mail me privately if you like to meet at the shows.
Cheers.

"What?" and he repeated "Are you cool?" And then he started with the "I
was never cool in school" thing and Robert actually did the "I'm sure you
don't remember me" part. Not that it matters...close enough. (I swear,
I'm not usually this anal!) Matt called me when he got back to Park
Hills, MO (where he lives) after the show at 3am (EST) to tell me all
about it. So when I read the above mention of him, I had to laugh...and
post a note. By the way, he is computer-less, but to whoever wrote that,
he said thanks for the "memorable moment" mention.

one of the funniest moments of the show as far as I'm concerned. adios

hi, i'm a longtime fan and only recently did i get a computer. when i found
out such a mailing list existed i got really excited. but as i continue to
read issue after issue it seems that a once friendly exchange of thoughts,
questions, and ideas has become an all out bickering between people on who is
a newbie and crap like that. music is supposed to bring people together not
push them further apart. so in conclusion, who cares if someone just started
listening the important thing should be that they did start listening.

Wow. Yesterday was my first Ben Folds Five show, and since then I've been
hating myself for missing their previous shows here, 'cause I know their next
stop here'll prolly be some arena-rock tour <shudder>. But maybe (hopefully)
not. Anyway, the show.
Komeda played a rawkin' set of poppy, loungey, dancey schtuff. Someone else
on the Armchair (whose name I forgot, sorry ;)) has their setlist... (Yeah,
hey, all you Armchairians I met last night! ;)) To sum it up, they were
excellent... and very attractive. (Hello drummer! ;))
Anyway, Ben Folds Five's set included (with my lil' $0.02 after certain
songs):
Missing the War
Philosophy
Emaline
The Last Polka
Selfless, Cold, and Composed
Kate
Alice Childress
Brick (Robert on cello or whatever you call it)
Steven's Last Night in Town (Preceded by Ben's calling it a ZZ Top song)
Jackson Cannery
One Angry Dwarf and Two Hundred Solemn Faces
Fair
An untitled instrumentally jammy thang (Sounded kinda like a spy show theme)
Bowccl
Best Imitation of Myself (After Sandi's continuous groveling?;))
Song for the Dumped (The placed shook with a 'Gimme my money back, you
bitch!'.)
She Don't Use Jelly (Yeah, Flaming Lips)
Underground (Complete with the "Darren, were you cool?" routine)

and the encores:
Smoke
Julianne

Between songs, the band talked about the difficulties of finding a bra these
days, how they never get any stuff, the meaning of being a rock star (the
meaning is getting towels, I now know ;)) and... geez, I was so mesmerized, I
can't remember anything else. I had a primo spot (no thanks to the stupid
valley girls who shoved their way up front a good half hour after I got
there... grr) ... I got to touch Ben's shoe ;), and I personally handed him a
set of plastic handcuffs I got him (he left the keys onstage...
intentional?), and I half-shook Robert's hand. They're a great buncha guys.
Professional, fun, entertaining, talented... woow. Looks, brains, and
everything ;). I can't wait to see 'em again. This has been a really bad
"review" so I'll end it here.

****One last thing:
If you were the guy with the rad hair and the white Compaq t-shirt, e-mail
me, 'cause I think yer swanky. (I was the girl who wanted to hide behind
Ben's piano, and my friend couldn't figure out my phrase or whatever when we
played hangman, and after the show I shook yer hand after I put all my
schtuff down...?)****
'K, that's all. 'Later. ;)
