I finally picked up the older Ben Fold's Five album and I wanted to know a
web page that I can find the lyrics on? Sheesh... I've only been out of
high school for 3 months and already my English are bad. =)

Ben Folds Five sure is a goooood band. On that note...Pluvius Dope's post
regarding pot smoking was so sarcastic I can't believe so many people
were offended by it and took it seriously. Geez, he even said he was
REALLY exaggerating in order to make a point. Were some of his points
vague and/or not based in fact? Yes. At the heart of it was it meant to
do anything but have a positive effect? I don't really think so. In
regards to the "Parenting is up to the parents..." GIVE ME A BREAK. Dare
I say, "It takes a village (global or otherwise) to raise a child. Of
course parenting is up to the parents but everyone else has a certain
responsibility too and if you don't want to play that way, I would
surmise you wouldn't make a very good playmate. The idea that pot leads
to other things isn't because of it's addictive nature, it has to do with
moving on. SOOO many friends of mine that smoked pot then "moved on,"
deciding they should try mushrooms, then acid, then, then, THEN they
weren't like the friends I originally had made.
I'm looking forward to ol' BF5 on Sessions. WHOOO HOO!!! I know. Nice
segue. This has been my longest post ever. Don't want to make Frank mad.

People

Alright, I hope the armchair doesn't become a soapbox for our own political
beliefs. That isn't what it's here for. As for Pluvius Dope's comments,
unfortunately, this is what passes for straight edge these days. Narrow
mindedness is never what Ian Mac Kaye had in mind ( Ian MacKaye of Minor
Threat who coined the term Straight Edge promoting the "Don't Drink-Don't
Smoke-Don't Fuck" lifestyle). To quote Ian "If people are into it, that's
cool, but if they're not into it, that's cool too" Understand?

Okay, indulge me one more Ian quote, I think it's what we're forgetting "To
me success, is when people work together to build something, make something.
That's success" That's what the Armchair should be.

hiya fellow ben folds five lovers-- this is getting way pathetic here with
everyone fighting over this whole drug issue. i mean, it is interesting to
know if the members of your favorite band smoke up or not, but after that
article in the High Times about it, it should not have been discussed
anymore. this is not a mailing list to discuss the pros and cons of weed. we
found out that ben doesn't do it and that is more than enough information for
me. how about we just drop this issue right now before it becomes as annoying
as those dreaded top 10 lists? just a word of advice. have a nice day.

pluvios dope,
i think you might benefit from a bit of the GANJA. You seem a bit uptight.
But if you do or don't use drugs, its no big deal to me, because i don't
discriminate. You shouldn't either. And i don't think a lot of bands advocate
drug use, they like them and will admit to it, but they aren't going out and
trying to get kids on drugs. It is really up to the person, i for one would
never go out and use drugs just because ben folds does, but i might have
other reasons. Well bah bye for now!

Hi fivers! I have experienced my first full week of college and I am
glad to finally have time to post and read the beloved Armchair. GWU and
DC are really awesome! So many kids here listen to Ben Folds Five. I
have 2 of their posters, and kids will just walk in and start praising
BF5. It rocks the house down. I have discovered that either you worship
BF5 and love em to death, or you just haven't heard of them. The second
day of school I even saw a guy (hi Dave) with a BF5 T-shirt on. Turns out
he runs the radio station here and he plays alot of jazz, but throws BF5
in alot for good measure. It is so good to finally have email set up and
running again. This is my new address, for anyone that wants to email me
out there. Does anyone know about Fall-Winter tour dates yet? Peace out.

Subject: tape chain

okay, i'm leaving now to visit the land of "those crazy little women" but
i'll be back on tuesday. tuesday is the last day for anyone to sign up for
the tape chain. how it works is this: everyone on the list makes a tape of
their favorite, obscure if possible, songs and groups. in other words, we
don't want tapes of highly played mtv videos or hot singles. we want some
different stuff to expand our horizons. then i send out a list to all
those signed up for the list. you send your tape to the person whose name
is below yours. every so often, i'll send a note telling you to send the
tape you just received on to your person. in theory, everyone will get to
sample everyone's tape. that's how it works on paper. sign up and see how
well it works in the real world. so far i have eleven people signed up. if
there are too many people signed up, i will just split it into two groups
to cut down on postage if there are money problems. if there are no money
problems, then we'll just get lots and lots of new music. thanks you guys
for listening to me once again. there should be no more messages on the
'chair from me about this.

on a bff-related note. i'm here at columbia and i have my bff posters (i
have two, yes two) hanging on my closet door and last night a guy came
into my room and asked how i scored the posters. i told him about horde
and kansas and then asked him if he had heard of bff. he said that he had
heard one of his friend's cds and had liked them, but that was about it.
so we might have a new fan on our hands, if i have anything to do with it.

First of all..... WHy most the topic continue we are on here to discuss Ben
Folds Five. I understand that some people may have a problem with people
doing drugs, but there is no need to exagerate (even thought stuff liek that
does happen .) I do'nt even recall any one sayign that BEN does smoke pot,
it's just been indicated. I think this might be a problem, and dare I say
this, but people need to just listen to the music and enjoy it. Even, though
it is nice to know tid-bits on your favorite band. My extretrely two cents.
