You know it's amazing. It doesn't matter how much some people like a
band, they really take it personally when someone else agrees with them.
I honestly believe that some people would only appreciate Ben Folds 5
fully if he was sitting in a corner of his/her house playing only for
them (not that i wouldn't love that...)
Let's all appreciate the music so much that it doesn't matter how old
the listeners are. It's running incirclesincirclesincircles complaining
about anyone who appreciates this band, young old, or otherwise.
For the record: Robert's viola playing does not really have alot to do
with his double bass playing. As a musician, I think that Robert is one
of the most underrated bass players out there. Melodic counterlines
like very few since McCartney. BUT his upright playing is very amateur,
icluding his bow work. I am NOT saying this to put Robert down
(although I'd love to see him get so good at it that he would do it more
often) but to remind people who don't know anything about double bass to
start making comparisons or opinions they don't understand.
Now that I've pissed just about everyone off in one fell swoop, I'm
wondering if anyone has stuff (videos, bootlegs, promos or
songbooks)that they are looking to get rid of. E-mail me privately so
that you don't interrupt the negative reaction I'm gonna get from the
first parts of this post.

Personally, I think these are both big compliments! I can see what you
mean, I guess, but I think he's saying she knows exactly what to say, when
and the quality of being able to make a great mixtape... It is a divine
talent!

Well, I'd just like to let all Aussies know that we are up to date
with Letterman. ( just in case some of you were wondering) Well, in New
South Wales anyway.

Anyways, can't wait for the new album and can't wait till they
come back....after a well deserved break of course.

Congrats! BF5 has finally made primetime airtime in Seattle! (It's about
time, isn't it?) The D.J.s on KMTT are heavily plugging it--playing it
several times a day and announcing it everytime.

I don't think we fans who have followed BF5 from obscurity should feel
threatened by too much "commercialism." After all, the boys are all true
artists, not rockstar-wannabe's.

If anything, we should feel blessed that the rest of the world has caught up
with our good taste!

In response to:
Whoever said that BF5 should cover the Charlie Brown Xmas album is SO
RIGHT. I can just imagine "Christmastime is Here." It gives me shivers
just thinking of it!

Not to run my point into the ground, but I've actually written (in
print, no less) that Ben Folds IS Schroder from the Peanuts strip, all
grown up and fronting his own rock'n'roll band. So, if you read a quote
to that effect in any magazine and/or web post, just remember they stole
it from me.

Egotistically,
rICH

p.s. but which characters correspond to robert and darren? i'm saying
linus and pigpen, respectively.
p.s.s. please don't start a thread on the topic of "BF5 as Peanuts
characters"... it was a dumb idea to begin with...

Dammit I know that responding to responses of my own threads is lame
beyond belief, but I can't f***in' help myself. And here I go again:
Re:
>6) Is "Kate" any less of a head-over-heels love song now that the song's namesake is divorced from the song's writer?
>This is interesting. I thought Ben was parodying all those love songs.
>("When all words fail she speaks, her mix tape's a masterpiece...", not

See, I REALLY don't think that song is ironic or sarcastic. Goofy, yes.
Mocking, no. "Walter," "Julianne," "BOWCCL," "Underground" and more all
sound very mocking to my ears... while "Kate" seems genuine. Just my 2
cents...

>8) Lastly, the best piece of advice I could give: Never name your songs

No, listen to THIS man. 'Cuz I still keep forgetting to change the names
(or maybe I'm trying to "keep it real"). Whatever. Anyone with time to
kill can check out the lyrics on my site and see what I mean... pity you
can't meet the lovely namesakes in person.
And hey, namesakes ALWAYS move away. And then you can play the songs in
public again.

Um, let me see. Brick is coming out in March in the UK and they're touring
to coincide with the release. It would have been released earlier but they
had to line up the TV appearences (looks like TFI is getting them). No word
on where they'll be playing but Manchester looks likely...

>start to finish and just be done with it.

Wow. i was gonna say that BFF should cover the whole "Muppet Christmas"
album (the one with John Denver) -- especially the Dr. Teeth and the
Electric Mayhem cover of "Little St. Nick" (would that make it a double
cover, then?)

On another note:
My friend and I were planning a "6 am, day after christmas" BFF moment this
week. We're gonna drag our selves out of bed and listen to Brick (I
suggested we go listen to it in our cars, but Minnesota and Wisconsin are
just too cold at 6 am in December for that kind of stuff.) It started as
just a cool kind of "we'll be doing the same thing at the same time" game,
but now I think it's also a wonderful way to take a few minutes and do
nothing but appreciate the music I really love. Anyway, everybody who wants
to do the 6am-post x-mas-BFF-Brick- group meditation-type-thing -- c'mon!
What else are you going to do then? You can sleep when you're dead.
And, um. . . let's just pretend time zones don't exist or something. 'Cause
I'm NOT doing the math. :)

Don't post anything important while I'm switching my subscription to my home
address, OK? Thanks. I knew I could count on you guys. :)
