Hey Fivers,

Our facetious Five are, according to the sites, the next feature for
Rolling Stone. I don't know if this means they get the cover, or a big
headline, but they are going to have a review in the magazine. They were the
feature story for Friday's hot news on RS's website. Anyway...this is bad, I
don't like my Five so commercially popular. But this is an interesting
article, because in it, Ben talks about labeling NBP as "For Fans Only." Well,
enjoy...

Subject: LA show last Nov 30; also, do the boys ever play Vegas?

There's no really good way to start a first-time post, is there?

Now that that's out of the way, I have two questions for you lovely
Armchairians:

If anybody has an audio or video tape of the show that was on November 30,
1997 in LA at the El Rey theater...could you e-mail me, please? It was my
first (and so far only) BFF show and I'd really like a copy of it...if anyone
was there, I was the one who threw the black t-shirt onstage at the
appropriate line in "Song for the Dumped..." I personally do not have any
tapes to trade; however, I'm going to London in April and I could possibly
pick some sort of BFF import up for whoever sends me a tape.

Issue number two: When are the boys ever coming to Las Vegas? I had to schlep
to LA just to see them last time, and I only got to do that because I asked
for it for a birthday present. I'd go see them Feb. 8th again in LA, but I've
run out of birthdays. Does anyone know if they've ever played Vegas before,
and/or if they plan on including us in any tours ever? There's an excellent
venue here, the Huntridge, which would be perfect for them.

Oh, and one more thing: is there any way to write to them without going
through the record company? That seems so impersonal, like I'm going to get a
form letter and an application for the Ben Folds Five Fan Club back or
something. That's all.

I have the SNL show taped, so if any you want a copy send me a padded
mailer, return postage, and a VHS. Email for my address.

I would really love to trade for anything BFF, but all I have is the SNL
show, and the three album.

I would die to see BFF on Sessions on West 54th street.

On another note, I really want my band back. All my friends stole it from
me when they heard Brick.

BTW, drop me a line if you'd like to meet at the NYC show.

Subject: Real Fan?

With a couple posts mentioning a BF5 concert only for "real fans" and talk
about NBP being "for the fans", I'm just wondering how people define a
"real fan".

As someone said before, anyone willing to read four posts a night of this
armchair has to qualify at least at some level as a fan, here's the
thought that a friend passed on to me.

A real fan is one that loves the music so much that he (or she) just has
to spread around the music. That's how I came to find Ben. This friend
wanted to go to the concert, and lent me the self-titled to listen to. A
week later, we had our tickets bought and were figuring out who was going
to drive.

That's why I was so happy when two days ago one of my friends informed me
that I wasn't getting my copy of WEAEA back because he loved it so much
AND someone on my dorm floor asked to borrow the CD because he had seen me
wearing my BF5 shirt to class earlier. Try it some time, it's a great
feeling. And to anyone upset that Bf5 is the "Brick" band, do something
about it. If someone says they like Brick, hand them WEAEA and tell them
to listen to it for a couple of weeks. Call up the radio station, try to
get them to play a double of BF5, brick and another song.

Damn, I rambled again. Oh well. Peace, everyone,

Good idea! But only if "Bad Idea" is playing in the background. Actually,

wow. OK, those questions were easy, they just took a while. Please tell me

Subject: 'Life in General' (it's a band), Snuzz/Bus Stop (also bands) + other other stuff

Has anyone here (particularly the Armchairites from North Carolina)
heard of a band/duo called 'Life In General' from NC? they are coming to
Adelaide, Australia for an arts festival we have here, and they are
described pretty favourably in the festival guide (well, as if they're
going to bag them when they want you to buy tickets, huh?). Apparently
they have won 'Artist of the Year' in 1996 and 1997, voted in by
colleges across the states. Are they any good?

Secondly - SNUZZ AND BUS STOP ARE FANTASTIC!!! Thanks Matt ever so much
for the copy of their stuff, it's bloody excellent. If you haven't
already bothered to check out Chuck Folds' band(s) (that's right: BEN'S
BROTHER!! Wow!) then go and do it. Now. Or I'll find out where you live
and...

Thirdly, anyone realise that STEVIE WONDER has a song called 'All in
love is fair'?

Fourthly, seeing as people are drawing parallels between the physical
appearances of Darren and band members of Morphine, and Ben and Fred
from Roseanne (where you got THAT idea I'll never know) I might combine
the two ideas and suggest that DARREN looks a bit like MARK from
Roseanne. Whaddya reckon?

She's out breakin I'm drowning slowly. ;)

Petra

PS: dammit bloody dammit...missed Brick on Rage.
