 1) I've heard a lot about BFF performing Video Killed The Radio Star. Is
it the same song that is on the last album of "The Presidents of the
USA" ? Who performed this song first? Was it written by "The Presidents
of the USA" ? Forgive me for my lack of american music culture ...

The song "Video Killed the Radio Star" was originally performed by a band
called "The Buggles". "Video Killed the Radio Star" also happened to be the
first video ever on MTV. The rest is history...

This afternoon my boyfriend told me that while he was watching one of
the news channels(probably on the ABC), last night during the wharf
coverage he heard brick being played. He thought that it was probably
someones tape recorder VERY close to the microphone, but it may have
been edited in by the news people, who knows! Anyway, BFF have made it
onto the news in Australia(well there music has). I'm going to have to
start watching the news in future. Darn! Just thought you'd like to
know.

Cheers :)

The Presidents of the US were not the people who wrote the song. It was the
"Buggles" an eighties band. The Presidents simply did a cover on it like Ben
Folds 5 but Ben Folds 5 did it first.

Anyways i really really want a promo poster for my room so if anyone has one that
is up for trade/sale please e-mail me or post it on the armchair.

Thanks,

written at the bottom. I asked the manager of Trax for one but he
wouldn't give me one. Just curious.

also, is Carrie Shanafelt still on this list??

first off-- i'm going to kick sooo much ass if one more person brings up the
'ringing phone' in SLNIT. we've discussed this. it was discovered more than a
year ago. it's time to move on. a time for healing from this wretched
effrontery.

anyhoo--
the Borders Books shop on 95th and Metcalf has had a buncha BRICK singles
layin around in the BFF section (filed under B!). I've purchased 2 already,
and, as of tonight, there was one left. I'm sure they have more, there's
always at least 3 in there. So, if you wanted one, get on your bikes and pedal
down there!

All right, i must do this:
FAVORITE BANDS WHO DON'T SUCK
1. Van Morrison
2. Pearl Jam (the bootlegs, not the regular albums)
3. Ben Folds Five
4. Presidents of the USA (sigh)
5. Semisonic
6. your momma

I know this just takes up space, but i pay no mind; im just here to pick up
chicks.

Hi everyone,

If you're coming to the concert on the 29th June at The Forum, you might
want to join a bunch of us for a drink or two beforehand.

We'll be meeting in the front bar of the Assembly House pub on
Fortress/Kentish Town Rd from 6pm. To get there, come out of the Tube,
turn right and it should be in front of you across the road.

If you are interested in coming, send me an email - or just turn up and
try to tell which group is us :)

ah, someone has discovered just a small part of this plot.

You see, my theory is that in ever song ever recorded there is a a
phone ringing. Of course in most songs you can't hear the phone, but
when you turn the music up, you hear it. Very strange.
The phone effect gets worse the further away from the the CD player is
from the phone.

Just an interesting note,
Amanda

Top Five Bands, other than BF5
1. The Whitlams
2. The Beatles
3. Weezer

Subject: 5 Artists and 4 Singles and 3 Men and 2 Covers and 1 Post

Hello Armchairites,
This is a numeric post, so bear...

5 ARTISTS I like in addition to the, um, Five:
Grant Lee Buffalo
Jeff Buckley
Counting Crows
Radiohead
Tom Waits and/or Prince (these are pre-MTV folks for you young'uns)

4 SINGLES of "Brick":
England has 2 different "Brick" singles and either are worth your
money... I would skew towards the one with the Japanese SFTD because
that version is EXTREMELY funny, but the one with live "Smoke" and MTW
rocks as well.
Japanese "Brick" is really good but costs a LOT of money (damn exchange
rate) and you can find everything on another single now. It has "Smoke
(Live)" and "Fair (Disco Remix)" from the English "Brick"s, "Kate (Ska
Remix)" from the Australian "Brick," and the wonderful "Mitchell Lane"
from the English "Kate" single.
There's also an Australian "Brick" which has 2 songs from the Japanese
version. Eh.

3 MEN performing a tribute to Bacharach (aka BF5):
Will be released officially when? Oh yeah, Godzilla soundtrack drops May
19th, with the new Five song "Air"! (And a not-so-bad cover of Bowie's
"Heroes" by the Wallflowers...)

2 COVERS of "Video Killed The Radio Star" exist:
But the original came out in '81 (1980? 1979?) and was performed by
one-hit wonders the Buggles. First video ever shown on MTV, for those
who care. Don't you DARE think that those lame-ass Presidents of the
U.S.A. could EVER write a song that good. Plus, the Five were performing
it in concert as early as '95, so I think even their cover predates the
Presidents'. Too bad they don't play it anymore; it was a really sweet
rendition.

1 POST to speak my 2 cents about a bunch o' crap and also to tell you to
keep eyes open for these great upcoming releases:
Grant Lee Buffalo - Jubilee (heavier, rockier, still cool)
Jeff Buckley - Sketches (what an epitaph)
Tori Amos - from the choirgirl hotel (Saw her last night... Talk about
rocking out on the piano...)
emmet swimming - Big Night Without You (best band you've never heard)

in the player now: Dan Kibler, David Poe, Semisonic...

Later,
rICH
