Can anyone confirm a rumour I heard that Dave Matthews is going to be a
guest at the Beck/BFF show in Cleveland on June 1st?

Also, here are some of my favorite bands beside BFF. (Picking only 5 would
be way too hard for me to do.)

(in no particular order):
Lou Reed/Velvet Underground
Built to Spill
Led Zeppelin
Pearl Jam
Stereolab
Braid (a recent addition)
Bob Dylan
etc.....

  as if anyone cares.

Noone's in trouble. I can't imagine any of the guys getting arrested for
"public indecency" in a park restroom or beating anyone up, etc. I just
heard on the radio today the source of the
Sting/Andy/Gordon confusion - Andy Summers is in fact another member of
The Police. Well, according to the DJ's anyway.

Speaking of the radio, it looks like LA is trying to make the boys into
one-hit wonders. I haven't heard Brick in ages and never SFTD. Yet, KROQ
is still sponsoring their May show.... Any comments on the brilliance of
L.A. radio? we do have the all showtunes station which has one show
hosted
by the same lady who does Lucky supermarket commercials, and another
hosted by Florence Henderson of Brady Bunch and Wesson oil fame.

Regarding Video Killed The Radio Star:

>actually, the buggles wrote "video killed the radio star" it was the first
>ever video on mtv....august 1985(?)

IIRC, it was August 1, 1981 - "I Live With It" by Barenaked Ladies helps me
remember the date... ;)

>The Presidents of the US were not the people who wrote the song. It was the
>"Buggles" an eighties band. The Presidents simply did a cover on it like Ben
>Folds 5 but Ben Folds 5 did it first.

I dunno...it's been a part of the Presidents' live set since at least
'95...possibly even '94.

Off-topic: why do so many people on the Armchair bear such hatred for the
Prezzies? They're a lot of fun, IMO...

As for UDMO:

>can the guy who posted the UDMO email please post it again or email it to
>me. thanks.

dogbone@voicenet.com - it's been a couple of weeks since I sent them my
order for Live From The Underground, and I still haven't heard a word back
from them. :S

I've been a loyal armchair reader for a good while now, maybe a little more
than a year, and I've finally decided to post.
Hi, I'm Matty and I'm a virgin to the world of finding good imports, so
could someone please let me know how to get a hold of them b/c I keep finding
the same ones in my local record stores. much appreciated.

now for my second motivation to post...my five non bff bands:
REM
Miles Davis(good ole jazz era)
They Might Be Giants(recent addition)
Indigo Girls
Crosby, Stills and Nash(not Young, he always ruins everything)

Untrue. The Presidents were playing that song live when they were touring for
their debut album, which was around 1995.. so, they did it first. BFF did it

Well, I'm new to this mailing list, but from everyone else's posts I figured
we were all suppose to give a list of our five favorite bands besides BFF. I
know I'm going to write these and later go doh, that's wrong. But, here are
mine:
1. Sublime
2. Smashing Pumpkins
3. Squirrel Nut Zippers
4. Jimmy Buffett
5. The Doors

I like almost any big band

Holy damn, someone else out there knows of Tom Waits! I've been following him
ever since his first album, Closing Time. Grapefruit Moon is one of the best
songs ever written, in me humble opinion, and would,. by the way, be a great
cover song for Ben Folds Five. But I gotta ask, has anyone heard of LOUDON
WAINWRIGHT III? I'd written earler that I was talking to Ben Folds after
their concert in Syracuse NY (HORDE Festival), and he was saying that he'd
just bought Loudon's album a week before. The album he was referring to is
called simply Album III, and has the song "Red Guitar" on it, which Ben
happened to point out as a stand-out on the album. It was so odd to think
that we connected about a song that was written in 1972, when I was a wee lad
of 13. Ah, I'm rambling now. Sorry. Anyway, write back if you have any
specific Tom Waits favorites. (Great actor too, by the way.) Dimsdale0

actually post things like that, at the bottom i put that i was kidding,

Now I don't want to contribute to this whole controversy about the success
of Brick and all, but I thought that this little surreal experience needed
to be related.

I'm in the Food Lion supermarket buying the usual and I'm grimacing a little
since Peter Cetera is playing loudly on the canned music machine. I turn
down the next isle just as Peter hits the last mournful note, and, Oh My
God, what should come next--Brick. I was a little shocked and felt that
salmonella rush in my stomach. What's more is the song was paused twice
during it's play over the supermarket loudspeakers to announce the great
daily values on oral hygene products and Captain Crunch. It was all a
little surreal. So for better or worse, there's the story.

Greetings from here,

To whoever it was praising the mighty Crowded House - yes, oh yes. They
were completely kick-arse/ass (depending on your preference), and just in
case anyone didn't know, Neil Finn releases his solo album on June 15th or
16th depending on where you live on this planet. Buy it.

And, as much as I hate being pedantic : ) but about the 4 Brick singles.
One of the British ones has SFTD (Jap) and Smoke live, the other has MTW
and ....Jelly, whilst the Aussie one has 3 tracks (not two) from the Jap
one, Smoke (live), Mitchell Lane, and Ska Kate. Just thought I'd let
everyone know to stop any disappointment.

Thank you for your time, patience and effort

Luke
