Ben Folds Five had a full page interview about what was cool in
Melody Maker last week, it was bloody funny. This week's NME has Ben
Folds himself on the couch answering questions, it too is hilarious.
Remarkably Brick stayed in the top 40 which meant quite a few people
bought it in 2nd week- usually they bomb in and straight back out.
They were clearly taking the piss on TOTP in Melody Maker they said
that it was passionless and the way Ben kept adding extra notes at
the end showed how he was just trying to mess with the minds of small
children. It is good after about a year of only hearing boring
americans waffling on about how wonderful life is now theyve FINALLY
recognised BFF for their genius, to hear some people from this side
of the pond talking about BFF. They still haven't played it on
Capital- so it must be good.

can someone kick that guy who tried to make a fucking sales pitch to us off
this mailing list. I enjoy hearing from you guys who I know actually respect
the greates band on earth, bff, but I don't think I need to hear that crap
when I'm trying to enjoy the magical armchair. Anyways, that's all I wanted
to say. Oh, and also, does anyone know if bff is opening for dmb at Foxoboro
on june 5. I know that beck is, but I wasn't sure about bff. thanks.

The concert for dmb, bff, and beck is sold out. the only way to get tickets
is to shell out the big bucks to a ticketing agency. could cost upwards of
$80. but, i've got ickets for me, so haha!

Here is another example of what a great guy Ben is...

My friend has a friend that lives in North Carolina right across the street
from the house where the band recorded Whatever and Ever, Amen. My friend said
that when the record came out, Ben brought her a copy of the cd to thank her
"for putting up with all the noise across the street."

I know they also thanked their neighbors in the liner notes, but I didn't know
he personally hand-delivered copies of the cd to them. A very nice gesture, I
think.

I know this must be true because neither of them are really fans of the band;
to them it was like, "oh wow, that's neat." I was impressed, though!

Also, does anyone know anything about this "megahits volume 2" compilation cd
that was mentioned on the Armchair yesterday. It's supposed to contain a
"techno" version of Brick. Has anyone been able to listen to this or obtain
this? Is it a bootleg cd? Is it something that Ben mixed or did someone else
mix it using samples from Brick?

Thanks!

My God! You're right! Have you ever noticed that when you have your
CD turned right up, you're absolutely *sure* you just heard the
phone/doorbell ring?? Being a physicist, I should be able to explain
this, but I can't be arsed...

Many a true word spoken in jest... (and if you didn't read the
original post, I'm not going to repeat it)

Oh, BTW, was I drunk, or did I find that although BFF were mentioned
on the cover of this week's NME, there was no mention inside?????

Now, Toby, me old mucker, I know you're British, and I don't usually
moan at my compatriots, but please, LISTEN TO THE F*****G SONG!
Surely the lyrics aren't that hard to figure out?????

Now, you know, I was a sceptic when it came to get-rich-quick
schemes, but I've just had a revelation! All it requires you to do
is......

Hi everyone, sorry to bother, but I need a guy named JUSTIN PARLETTE to
email me, at this address, SOON. I sent you a video (the Potty Mouth one,
you know, the ORIGINAL, not just a copy) and you were supposed
to send me two tapes. THey haven't gotten here if you did, and I lost
your email addy. I am moving next week, if you haven't sent the tapes,
please email me so I can give you my new post address. Also, if anyone
else on the list has this guy's email addy and can give it to me, I would
appreciate it greatly. I am getting the sinking feeling that I've been
ripped and I don't like it....

positive of the names of the cd and or band/person covering the song.
but it's a compilation cd."
This is speculation, but "3 a.m." is an alias used by an Italian DJ named Robert Miles when he does bootleg remixes. His first LP, "Dreamland," was based on mixes and interpretations of music by Roberto Concina, an avant-garde pianist who composes music
similar to the stuff that Ben is doing on his "Fear of Pop" album. Miles's "Dreamland" is probally the closest thing you can get if you put BFF and techno/trance in a blender. His current LP, is ironically called "3 a.m." This one is more ambient than
techno. There isn't as much piano in it, but there are a couple songs that have similar motives and chord patterns as Brick.
It is possible that while Ben was working on his album he was introduced a lot of new people to BFF. Then someone knew someone else and as the music spread into new circles someone was able to do this remix, most likely as a joke, but I don't know.
I hope this will help some and maybe interest others who may want to hear what avant-garde music or piano-based trance sounds like and maybe help ease the release of Ben's solo album (not techno).

Did anyone notice the "Corporate Radio Sucks" article in the April 30 Rolling
Stone. The header reads:

"I don't listen to radio... I think they underestimate the listeners." - Ben
Folds

It seems that there is a compilation cd coming out called Teleconned that will
feature a song by the boys. A few qoutes from Ben in the article, fairly
interesting. Just thought you'd like to know.

Just curious. Dimsdale0

Dimsdale0 - I don't own any Beatles records because they are so old but I
have always loved their music. However, I couldn't agree with your more re:
Crowded House and BFF. We must be on the same musical wave-length.

I really hate to bother the armchair but its become unavoidable. You see, i've been looking for the BFF single BOWCCL pt. 1 for some time now and nobody seems to still have it. Borders book store tried to order it for me but i got a note in the mail that
says it either isnt made anymore or they are out of it. CDNOW said its not in their stock. Camelot music has told me it can order it but its really expensive and i still have to try world party music but i thought i would ask if anybody knew where i could
get a copy. please send any response to ctsmith@onr.com. Any response is appreciated. Also i was wondering if anybody on the list was headed to the BFF show in Austin on May 14 at the Austin Music Hall??
