Subject: The yearbook from hell.

Well, i'm a senior in highschool, so i get to fill out this little form with
quotes and "in ten years" and all that crap for my yearbook.. so, i use a
bunch of random quotes from things that i like and whatever.. who cares. This
digest isn't about me.. enough of me. So for the "In Ten Years" part, i decide
to use a little Ben Folds Five reference and say "I'm sure you won't remember
me." (yes, i had to change don't to won't.. but whatever. sue me.) Months
later, we get the yearbook, and i look at my quote.. they forgot "me." It
says:

In Ten Years: I'm sure you won't remember.

DAMNIT! Why can't they realize that doesn't make sence? Who ARE these people?
Oh, the horror of it all. They butchered my reference. Now people will look
back and instead of saying "Hey, he's a ben folds fan" (or "hey, i don't
remember him") they'll say "he's an idiot who wrote something that didnt' make
sence." Well, doesn't that just sum high school up? Heh.

i just came back from the bff\beck show, and, well, it was sweet, i guess.

Ben and the crew were excellent. i took about 23 pics of them (i cant
remember) and they were rockin. but id say the most glorious moment of my
life was when a stagehand came and TOOK ROBERTS CELLO BASS THING AWAY!!!!!
they didnt play brick!!!!!!!! they mostly played all the fast energetic
songs, which was great! --- Pyser, Dwarf, Underground, Battle, Stevens,
Fair, a kickass version of Dumped, i know im forgetting some... but what
struck me was Selfless, cold and composed... it totally didnt fit with the
rest of their songs, but it was sweet. im just so happy, all the little
bastards who came just to hear brick didnt get their wish! hahahaha, i
have my revenge!!! mmhhmmhhmmhhmhmhmhmhmhhahahahahahahahaaaaaa!!!!!

oh yeah, beck put on a great show too... long live those turntables!

whatever and ever,

Hi all.

i was talking to a friend of mine who is heaps into Monty Python (trying
to convert her!) and she asked the question that all ppl seem to ask
when they first hear about BFF: "how many of them are there? why are
they called Ben Folds *Five*?" to which i replied "Because it sounds
better than Ben Folds Three." (as an aside, how do other ppl respond to
this question? anyway, back to the story:) then she said: "So it's like
King Arthur in the Holy Grail, 'countest thou to 5' '3 sir' '3, then
throwest thou the holy hand grenade of antioch' ". Wow! i thought. this
could be true. anyone have any more ideas? (for those who may not have
seen Monty Python and the Holy Grail, every time King Arthur goes to say
"Three" he says "Five", then someone says "Three sir" and Arthur
corrects himself. eg, "We attack on the count of 5." "3 sir." "Three.
One! Two! Five!" "Three sir." Three!")

No, it's not Brickheads that are wrong with BF5's popularity. It's actually
obnoxious, preening ne'er-do-wells like this. THESE are the people who make it
not fun.

Lighten up. And stop screwing this up for the rest of us.

Hello you.

Now, I know I've only been around this spanking gorgeous mailing list a
while, but even my lazy, untrained eye can notice that it could be better.
I am not having a pop at anyone in particular, it's just that, well, I
subscribed in March (I think) and I have seen the SLNIT question thrice.
Three times in three months. Are we all brain dead out here? Check some
sites, people! There are a bucket load of corking sites on the net, runs by
people from this very list - ask for recommendations - just not from me,
'cause I'm too diplomatic. Now, I'm rambling, and to save space for some
quality posts I'll say go Mr. Schneider, you is right.

The photo - picture of the band - with (now, I'm at work so I haven't got
the cd near me so it's all from memory) from left to right Darren, Ben,
Robert. Look, don't have a pop at me,. alright, it's from memory, dammit,
and Mr. Schneider only asked for ideas, so nyah!

Cheers

hey y'all

Wel I gotta say it's kinda weird to be back posting to old MA - I've been hanging around and
perusing for a fair few months now but never actually had owt to write until now - that is
primarily because all the old-skool posse who are down with OPP are back and, hell, if there's a
bandwagon to jump on then I'll jump on it!

So who da fuk am I you gotta be wondering. Well I'm an oldie (21 almost but much wiser beyond my
years) who too was there way at the beginning of the digest and had immense fun just hanging out
and, for the very first time, debating Ben's sexual orientation, his wayward vet visits in Brick
and so on ecetera ecetera. I won't claim to be THE die-hard BF5 fan as I imagine everyone else will
question that. prefering to put themselves under that moniker, but while you people may have
various claims to originating websites or creating Helmet Head names I can beat you all as I have
the website called Helmet Heads (http://www.geocities.com/hollywood/lot/5009 - visit us, we're
simple people but we appreciate good music). Ain't no more point to this post other than to say
it's could to see so many familiar keyboards back...

The quote isn't "Cut That Shit", it's "Count That Shit", as in count off

like on S/T when we hear "Count that bitch off somebody!"
So, that's the damn deal about that.

Yay! Ben Folds Five apparently wasn't considered/refused to play the K-Rock
concert at Vernon Downs next month...in case you're wondering, the lineup is
as follows:

Third Eye Blind
Blink 182
Smash Mouth
Our Lady Peace
Semisonic
Big Wreck
Stabbing Westward
God Lives Underwater
Eve-6
Spacehog

Tickets only cost $10, but the only bands I can stomach out of that groad-
hopper are GLU and possibly Spacehog. Guess who'd rather go to Dave Matthews a
week before that...

Peace,
Dan

Okay. I got to Pine Knob and from the outside it looks
like some ridiculous amusement park. I got inside and
oddly, I found about 10 of the not-so-nice-rich types
from my (former, I just graduated yay!) school, at the show.
We had seats but we were in
the last row. Sean Lennon was okay. As a person he
might just be the most charismatic person I have ever seen.
Up nest: Ben Folds Five
Here's the setlist.
(I could be wrong in the order, but I don't think so)

Dr. Pyser
Dwarf: which led right into....
Underground
Selfless Cold, and Composed
Philosophy
Battle
Steven
Fair
SFTD

It was a little short, but I enjoyed it.
The sound, however, wasn't all that great. Not a great sign
for anyone seeing them at Giants or Foxboro.
It all got lost in the space. There sound is much more intimate
than Beck's. When Beck came on we left our seats and moved
down about 25 rows. What can I say?
Beck is crazy, wonderful, and yes, talented.
Highlites for his set were probably Beercan, Deadweight,
Jackass, and of course Where it's At.
I was just somewhat of a Beck fan before, but this turned
me into a fan.

Overall, it was great. 2nd best show I've went to.
I got to meet some lovely people from the Armchair.
Now I must go listen to Adore for the 5th time in 30 hours
(Damn it's a great album).

Oh yeah, Jill, e-mail me. thanks :)

Subject: Big Damned Deal -- Go Blow

Hey,

So what's the big deal about signing on/off. I've belonged to several
lists over the past 5 years and while list members regularly arrive and
depart it's unusual for people to make such a big friggin deal out of
it. I've been a fellow "chair" for several months now and you know
what... you guys, in your own private & glorious fan club, that signed
off and are now back on the Armchair weren't missed at all... at least
not by me... but still you're welcomed back and we look forward to your
contributions. A couple of weeks ago I sent a post to the MA on
TOLERANCE and was sorta' taken back by the strong support I received.
At the end of this bit, the tolerance post is included for the "old"
newbies and anyone else that may have missed it.

A couple more thoughts on the post from the Univ of Mich guy in MAD
#1036. Hey man, I don't know how you can "back-up" the two posts by
your buds (in MAD #1035). Yeah, Erik's post was a delight to read...
you know, something to say, funny. That post by Markus looks like pure
flame bait to me... I mean, shit, that post reeks of a condescending
attitude (plus there were at least 17 "I's" in the post which is about
10 too many). And what's with the impressive command of the English
language? "Annebling" ain't in my dic. "Ambling" or "rambling" or even
"wasting your time" are better substitutes. Perhaps this is another
elitist code word from someone who says: "Gone are the days when a Ben
Folds Five show meant a group of about 200 people, all @ least as
intelligent as me & w/the taste/class to sing along (LOUDLY!!!) & pogo
(THE HIGHER THE BETTER) but to leave the Docs @ home." Yeah, yeah,
yeah... we all miss those times but things change, grow-up, accept it.
Personally I think it's a pretty big deal the boys are flying high and
that so many more fans are enjoying their music today. And by the
way... who cares what kind of shoes somebody wears... doesn't make the
music sound different does it?

That's my bloody bit for today (and don't start counting the "I's" in my
post, damnit). Welcome back guys... see ya on the chair and if any of
you come to St Louis let me know we can meet up at one of the local
clubs and catch one of the many excellent local bands. Saw Harvey
Danger last night at the Sidedoor -- nice diversion, but too much metal
at times (like most of the time).

Hugs & Kisses, slobber, slobber,

Ray

Now that I have your attention, I have one word for everyone who posts
on this list REGARDLESS of age, musical persuasion, occupation,
educational level, short/tall, gay/straight/whatever,
mosh-head/brickhead, new-fan/old-fan/rotary fan, screamer/non-screamer,
blah, blah, blah: I don't fucking care and neither should you. So the
one word is:

TOLERANCE...

Learn it! Look it up! Remember it! Practice it! My observation is
that these extraordinarily trivial & mundane side issues of height,
"brickness", and similar crapola are generally irrelevant to the
fantastic music Ben, Robert & Darren create. I think we too often loose
sight of that when we get a little too centered on self and our own
opinions.

One other suggestion: finish reading the bloody post (maybe more than
once) if you're going to comment on it. Try, I said TRY to understand
the viewpoint of the poster and where she/he is coming from. Some of
these misunderstandings are just obvious miscommunication problems. You
don't have to agree with the post -- yeah, that would really be a hoot
- -- but before you get defensive about the most trivial point in the
entire universe count to 10 and if that doesn't work count to 10,000.

And last, I think it's pretty damned great that we can interact so
readily with fans around the globe about the greatest band out there
thanks to Frank Maynard!
