Hey, there's a difference between being a regular tape trader (like myself,
Doron, Alan, and tons of others on the list) and a jerk who makes a CDr of
a show and sells it for lots of $$.

You guys don't seem to understand that you don't HAVE to pay $25 and up for
a CDr just cuz it's at a CD store. Lots of people here have CD burners and
more bootlegs than you can ever dream of that could make you a CD for cost.
(as for the $10 price...that's a little steep. You can buy CDs for under $2
and maybe $1 for a bubble mailer, $1.50 for postage..and $1 for the bus to
get to the post office)

The bad thing about these bootlegs you find in the store is that they are,
yes, illegal (because the seller does not have a copyright on the material
being sold, and he/she is making a profit off the band). Tape trading, so
far, isn't illegal. Youldn't you be mad if you wrote a poem and someone
copied it and then sold it for a lot of $$? But if you wrote a poem and
someone passed it around for free and said "here this is so-and-so's poem,
i like it. have a copy!" then you'd be flattered, and that is why BFF
allows taping.

People won't stop making these bootleg CDs for sale until people stop
buying them. You can be sure that if there is any "unreleased" material
that is being released by the band, it will have a Sony550 label on it or
Caroline Records.

Notice the "crackdown" on MP3s that is all over the news...that is pretty
much like bootlegging (so they say. i think it's a load of crap) but when
people start making CDrs out of MP3s (like they are now) and SELLING them,
you can be sure that bootlegging of any sort will be cracked down on, and
where does that leave us? what about people like me who have spent
thousands of dollars trading tapes and never making one cent off of it,
purely for the love of these bands?

CD selling is evil and dirty, and whoever is doing it is just ruining it
for the rest of us. I've warned people on this list a million times not to
buy that CRAP. If you have never traded before and whine about how "well
there's no other way to get bootlegs!" well you're WRONG...go here:

http://members.aol.com/qualitease/bfftrade.html

and you can find a list of great BFF traders that will most likely help you
find tapes for either 2:1 (blanks) or postage cost.

You just need to get off your duffs and do a tiny bit of research and you
could have as many BFF bootlegs as there are shows.

PLEASE stop buying these illegal bootlegs. You're killing me.

Jess
