Who is Kate? and other questions answered

Kate Rosen was Ben's second wife. They were married in Los Angeles in December 1996, and divorced about two years later.

Rosemary and Cameron are two streets in Chapel Hill, North Carolina, near the campus of the University of North Carolina. Cameron cuts through campus and Rosemary runs parallel, two blocks north, through the commercial section of town. Franklin Street runs parallel between Rosemary and Cameron and is the main commercial street in Chapel Hill. Note that Ben says "Down by Rosemary and Cameron", not "Rosemary AT Cameron", acknowledging that they don't really intersect. Further, Ben uses a bit of poetic license; he wanted to use "Rosemary and Carr" but since the song has two beats on the second street name, he chose Cameron.

Why does it say "Army" next to Kate?

It may seem a bit strange that the word "Army" appears next to "Kate" on the album. Is this a precursor to the song "Army" that would appear on the next studio release, "The Unauthorized Biography of Reinhold Messner"?

Actually, it's a reference to the '70s rock band Kiss (which is still active and touring). Fans of Kiss were (and still are) called the "Kiss Army", and it was Ben's way of portraying himself as Kate's "fan club".
